Kate Middleton's Saphire Issa Engagement Dress

I was so excited when I heard that Kate Middleton and Prince William are getting married! It is quite the fairytale romance. And the dress that Kate wore when the engagement was announced was perfect, elegant and feminine, with a subtly bold deep V-neck. The color was also a great choice since it complements her engagement ring, the gorgeous Sapphire and diamond ring that was originally Diana's, the Princess of Wales. And for a price tag of over $500, this dress should be amazing! Since there is no way I could ever afford this dress, I did some looking around for a dress pattern that would be similar, and I found one at StyleArc.com.

Cee's Green "Atonement" Dress

The first time that I saw the movie Atonement, I fell in love with Cee's green dress. I love the unique color of the gown and I think that the flowing, floaty look of the dress is absolutely gorgeous! I found a perfect emerald green charmeuse silk at http://www.silkbaron.com/ to make the dress out of. There are also two patterns from http://www.evadress.com/ that if they were combined would be a pretty acurate version of this dress. Down farther you will see the two patterns; I put boxes around the parts I would combine.

Elizabeth Swann Gold Gown

(Promo Shot)

About a year ago, I found a Simplicity Pattern that is perfect for Elizabeth Swann's gold dress from Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl (the designer of the costume thought so too, I guess). I have been have a very difficult time finding a material that would be good for her over-dress, although, a few weeks ago I did find some clearenced material at JoAnn's that I think would have been a good match. To bad they only had 4 yds.

Accessories

Elizabeth's accessories play an important part in making her outfit complite. Her fan draws attention to the fact that she is having a hard time breathing and is trying to wave more air into her face. Her hat show that she is a well-bred young lady who keeps the sun off her face so she can maintain a flawless complextion. Her necklace and earrings are elegant and costly, yet subtle. Although, I kinda think that the gp;d and pearl necklace was just worn for some of the photoshoots because I'm pretty sure she was wearing the medallion the whole time in the movie. I could be wrong though.

Eleanor of Aquitaine Gown

When I found this pattern, I thought it would be perfect for a dress that Eleanor of Aquitaine would have worn. I feel that it is very elegant and flattering, something that a woman who cared about her looks would love to be seen in. I am planning on making option B of this pattern. I have already found the most beautiful fabric at Hancock Fabrics. It is a green royalty broadcloth, that shimmers with lovely blue undertones. I will try to scan a picture in soon. I think I have found a fabric that I want to use for the underskirt, but I'm not sure if it will match the broadcloth, so I will have to check.

Anne Boleyn Execution Dress

The other day, I found a pattern that, with a few alterations, would be perfect for Anne Boleyn's Execution Dress from the Showtime series The Tudors. I even found (and bought) a material that matches the purple color of her dress perfectly from Hancock Fabrics! The only problem I am having now is finding a material to use for the underskirt. I did find a silvery material at JoAnn Fabrics and a silvery material with a black velvet pattern on it that would work nicely except for the fact that it is silver and not pale purple. It is also way more expensive than the material that I bought at Hancock Fabrics.
